Blackjack Makes a Move From the Web to Television
July 9, 2008
Movies have become TV shows (“Terminator”), Webisodes have become TV shows (“Quarterlife”) and books have become TV shows (“Gossip Girl”). Now a casual online game is making the leap to the television screen. The cable channel GSN (formerly the Game Show Network) has set a July 21 premiere date for “Catch 21,” a TV version of a popular online blackjack game.
Computer versions of TV game shows have existed for years; the Nintendo Entertainment System featured antique eight-bit versions of “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune” 20 years ago. But television adaptations of online games are a nascent idea.
