Poker players, Frank hope to overturn online ban
May 4, 2008
WASHINGTON — The odds might not be in his favor, but U.S. Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., has gained a valuable ally in his fight to overturn a 2006 law banning online gambling. Poker Players Alliance, a grass-roots organization fighting for poker players’ rights, has put its chips on Rep. Frank’s proposal.
With more than 1 million members, the alliance in mid-April began actively lobbying Congress. Members have flooded congressional offices with more than 17,000 letters in the past month, attended town hall meetings in districts and flown to Washington to meet with lawmakers, according to John Pappas, executive director of the alliance. There are 25,000 members in Massachusetts alone.

NETeller and Canada
April 28, 2008
The NETELLER Group announced several significant changes to its services in a number of markets. Recent actions by regulators, payment processors, and online gaming operators have increased the uncertainty around certain activities related to online gambling in some jurisdictions. The Board of Directors of the Company reached a decision, on 25 March 2007, that the risk to the Group’s ongoing business in Canada and Turkey has increased in the light of such developments. The Board has therefore concluded that the Group will no longer process transfers related to online gambling sites on behalf of Canada or Turkey resident customers.
Reduced Service to Canada
* Cessation of Canadian transfers to gambling merchants: the Group will cease processing online gambling related transactions for Canada-resident customers with effect from 12.01 AM MST Monday 9 April 2007.
* Suspension of InstaCASH transactions: As of today Monday 26 March 2007, at 12:01 AM MST, Canada-resident customers were no longer able to deposit funds using NETELLER’s instaCASH service either directly or from any online gambling site.
* Non-gambling services continue: Canada-resident customers will continue to be able to use their e-wallet accounts for non-gambling transactions, including peer-to-peer and pre-paid debit transactions.
* Available customer funds: Customer funds, including those of Canadian residents, are held in a pooled, segregated trust account and will be available for withdrawal by customers, on demand. Canadian customers continue to be able to use their e-wallet accounts for non-gambling transactions
Well, that’s the official story. But Canadian Players should NOT panic. You have time to get your money out, if you so desire. And don’t forget that lots of rooms continued operations in the US after NETeller pulled out - these rooms WILL continue to serve the Canadian market.

Canadian Player Will Represent Titan Poker at Poker Tournament for Third Time
February 12, 2008

Cory Tymich, a 34-year-old poker player from Surrey, British Columbia in Canada, will represent Titan Poker, the largest poker room on the iPoker Network, at the World Poker Showdown Ocean World in the Dominican Republic in May 2008. Cory has previously represented Titan Poker in Las Vegas at the 2007 Pokerface Tournament, and at the South African Poker Open in February 2008. The WPS Ocean World will be Cory’s third time representing Titan Poker at a live event.
Cory is “3 for 3″ at Super Satellites on Titan Poker. During these qualifying tournaments on Titan Poker, Cory has never played and not won. On February 3, Cory actually won twice. In addition to his WPS Ocean World Tournament accomplishment, he also finished in 3rd place in the $200,000 Guaranteed Prize Tournament where he banked $16,000. Considering that Cory has only been playing at Titan Poker since August 2006, he has reaped a tremendous amount of success from these ventures.

Online Poker Rooms Compete for Rank
January 24, 2008
It’s a battle for third place between PartyGaming and its PartyPoker brand and the iPoker Network. Both are averaging around 5300 real cash players. Earlier this month, Full Tilt Poker’s online poker room overtook Party as the 2nd most popular room.
UltimateBet - the 3rd largest US facing poker brand - has been battling for the number 7 position with European rival Boss Media.
In the mix at number one is PokerStars. Just ahead of UltimateBet, there was OnGame and Everest.
Svenska Spel, Sweden’s state-supported online poker site, has really been getting crippled in just a few short weeks. That online poker room has fallen in rank to the number 10 position, with Bodog breathing down their back.
