GSN has Yet to Order more High Stakes Poker Episodes
May 15, 2008
High Stakes Poker, which once spent four seasons as the top-rated show on GSN, has yet to put in an order for more episodes. Although President and CEO of Poker PROductions Mori Eskandani confirmed that GSN has not yet contacted his production company for new shows, he wouldn’t rule out that GSN would never buy more High Stakes Poker episodes again.
According to Eskandani, that could happen as soon as tomorrrow or a decade from now. If GSN wants new shows, he said they will produce them. He reiterated that just because GSN has yet to place a call to Poker PROductions for new episodes in the last few months, it doesn’t mean that they never will.
Layla Kayleigh Wont Return For WPT Season 7
May 14, 2008
Another one bites the dust. The curse of Shana Hiatt claimed yet another victim this week when it was announced that current World Poker Tour Hostess Layla Kayleigh would not be returning to the show for season seven. Layla, a spunky fixture on the G4 channel with a cute british accent, now joins an ever-growing list of beautiful women who for one reason or another, were unable to parlay the coveted WPT opportunity into an ongoing job.
Ever since the departure of Shana Hiatt after her first three successful seasons on the WPT, it seems no other women has been able to discover the formula for long term success as a television poker tournament hostess. Yet despite these odds, many long time poker fans thought Kayleigh was close to nailing it. Kayleigh “brought great edge, wit, and personality to the World Poker Tour as hostess,” according to spokesmen at WPT enterprises, and it seems as if she was popular with the fans as well. Given this, it may seem surprising that the World Poker Tour is once again auditioning for a fresh face for their tour, but it shouldn’t be if you’ve been paying any attention. In the gambling world there are certain things we just have to accept as givens: always split aces in Blackjack, in video poker keep the low pair instead of the ace, and lastly, when watching poker on television, don’t let yourself get to attached to the hostess… unless her name is Shana.
Poker After Dark gets “romantic” with get dumped theme
May 13, 2008
Poker pro Marco Traniello will be appearing with significant other Jennifer Harman on this week’s episodes of Poker After Dark.
NBC’s hit late-night poker show, Poker After Dark, always has a theme for a week of episodes and, obviously, this week is no different.
However, with this week’s match-ups it looks like PAD is aiming for a “dump” or “get dumped” theme.
For the next five nights, or mornings depending how you look at it, three of poker’s power couples will sit down at the felt and play for the winner-take-all $120,000 prize: Jennifer Harman and Marco Traniello, David Benyamine and Erica Schoenberg and Phil Laak and Jennifer Tilly.
Now, we’re not so sure how the dynamics of a poker relationship work, but at our houses if you bust your significant other out of a possible $120,000 payday, look for somewhere else to sleep.
This would leave us with two options, dump the crap out of those chips so that you, yourself, don’t get dumped.
We’re sure that they are all consummate poker professionals who will not take any grudges away from the table but whatever, $120k is $120k.
Catch all the action Monday through Friday at 2:05 a.m. EST, followed by a special “Director’s Cut” edition on Saturday at 1 a.m. EST, following Saturday Night Live.
Poker TV Review: NBCNHUPC
May 5, 2008
I’m currently watching the Heads-Up Championship on NBC — round of 16. Mildly entertaining … it was fun to see Orel Hersheiser slightly outplay Freddy Deeb in a hand, and Full Tilt has some pretty cool new commercials. But still, the show as a whole isn’t as exciting as the commercials for the PGA Players Championship. Maybe someday … This would be much better, of course, were it being aired pseudo- or semi-live, when we still cared about our brackets.

For Those Who Can’t Handle The Sheer Intensity Of Cards On TV
January 28, 2008
There was this couple-of-month stretch when poker on TV was actually sort of cool, right before the world discovered the ancient game of Bejeweled. But now poker needs a renaissance. It needs a voice. It needs — you guessed it — radio coverage.
World Series of Poker Radio can now be heard on more than 200 stations, which is great news for all those people who are as embarrassed to admit their poker fetish as much as they are to confess they know all the words to “At Seventeen” and sing it loudly while driving to work whenever I hear it on the radio. Erm, when they hear it on the radio.
